Top of the page Bladder The bladder is a balloon-shaped muscle that serves as the storage pouch for urine. Urine is made in the kidneys and flows from them to the bladder through the ureters. From the bladder, urine flows through the urethra to the outside of the body. The bladder is part of the urinary tract, along with the kidneys, ureters, and the urethra.
