First off I’d like to say I gave 1 star only because I had to choose in order to write a review.
This is strictly written on an experience with the ER department. My 70 year old father was rushed to Catholic Medical by ambulance from the VA hospital in Manchester. It was not a choice for him to end up there. The waiting room reminded me more of a jail, with no one available to greet you or direct you, but instead two piles of paper one for patients and one for visitors that you fill out and slide under a glass window, a window that had a staff member sitting behind it who didn’t even look up to see myself and my mother confused and worried for our family member who had been rushed there. After about 45 minutes someone finally came to get us. We then goes back to see my father who has clearly had open heart surgery lying on a bed in a corner with pads attached to his chest but not hooked up to any machines. We asked the ever so pleasant nurse who very vocally stated she just came on shift if he should be hooked back up to the machine (after an X-ray he was taken to in a broken wheelchair over an hour ago) and her snippy response was yeah I’m doing that now. We then asked if there were rails on the bed that could go up seeing that the reason he was rushed there was because he passed out in the VA urgent care while waiting to be seen for a kidney stone very obviously landing on his face (which they never even attempted to clean or give him a bandage) when my dad said it was ok - her snippy response was well I can’t force him to put them up! I have never witnessed such a lack of concern and compassion towards another human from a NURSE!! The same nurse who demanded a urine sample but took over 30 minutes to bring a requested cup of water, that she placed on a counter out of his reach and walked out. This is not a man who is a frequent flyer coming to the ER complaining of any and everything - this is a man who was rushed there by ambulance from the VA hospital (a VETERAN) supposedly this hospital has a great cardiac floor which we would never know! After the nurse gave him the choice to stay for observation or see his doctors the following day - which do you think he chose?? I wouldn’t leave my pet there never mind a family member. I’ve never been so disgusted in my life, actually took me a few days to want to write because I was so angry! I do have a number to call but I didn’t want my concerns to go unknown - I’d rather it be in writing!! I highly suggest that the powers who be take a closer look at their front line staff who basically are representing your hospital and trusted to care for people’s lives!!
