Well our small town friendly hospital has now become the money hungry Unity Point. My parents always enjoyed the care they received here because the staff knew them and treated them like family. Except for a few of the other staff mostly supervisors we knew no one. Which I know times change. But from the very young 20 year old nurses, aids and desk clerks my father's stay was anything but a pleasant one. He was never turned nor repositioned every 2 hours as directed by Dr. He had to beg certain nurses for scheduled pain meds while she sat at desk on phone. Two very young techs tried to put him in chair and if it wasn't for my husband would have ended on floor. I would go to desk and ask a question and young girl at desk didn't know and walked away from me. We always felt more secure when the more experienced staff was there. So kudos to you at Unity Point Grinnell for making more money and destroying our family hospital. From now on we will go to the University for major care and Marengo for skilled care.

I have a friend that came here to the ER 2 different times. She had been in pain for months, unexplained weight loss, violent vomiting and not able to keep any food or fluids down. The first time she came here a male doctor came back and told her they found nothing and when she tried to ask questions on what to do, he told her “I have patients who are actually sick I don’t have time for this.” and walked out of the room and left her crying with no help. When HELP is his job!!!!!! The second time she came, which was last night there was more. First of all she never got any names to know who was taking care of her. The doctor gave her a pill that didn’t work and instead of trying the 2nd option he sent her out the door because he “didn’t have time.” She was also asking questions and a nurse had came in to ask him something and he left in the middle of her sentence. It took him an hour if not more to come back. A nurse also poked her for an IV before preparing anything for it and left her sitting with gushing blood while she panicked, and the bandage to put on WAY too tight it had to be removed with scissors it was cutting off circulation. She was basically laughed at and these people were rude with her telling her nothing was wrong and she wasn’t sick. TODAY she had a cat scan and they are now removing her gallbladder tomorrow, she very much was sick!! Point is, I’ve never witnessed such terrible treatment in a healthcare facility. Nobody deserves to be treated this way when they don’t know what is wrong and are coming to you for help.

Not even a glorified bandaid station. I witnessed son in anaphylaxis and was in it when ambulance arrived and yet they still looked at him like faking it! Dr Francis is one of the dumbest physicians ever! He doesn't even know proper medical terminology! When my son there last time, way back in time, he said what is eeg?Really ? I said its electroencephalogram! Seizure test! No ethics whatsoever and no caring for people. Automatically assume everyone on drugs, depressed, or faking it! Dont know how to treat people and very unprofessionally ran! They ruin peoples character over nothing because they assume way too much without reason. Not everyone is the same! Our bodies are all different and when you live with sxs so long, you know your own body! About time they listen to each patient because we are all different and know our body better then them. Take what patients say seriously because they know their own body! I about died in 2013 from seizures and stroke that put me in coma and they were too stupid to get breathing tube in correctly and Dr. Coggley said to my husband, I dont know what to do. Shut the so called hospital down! I'll never go back and if I wake up there, someone getting punched!! Its Useless and nurses are very rude! And then the Drs are beyond untrained properly!! Shut the place down!! I see malpractice coming eventually for that hospital. And Karma is great! Respect patients! If you want respect back then simple!! Idiots dont even explain what they are! Here's an idea for ya!.....instead of building bigger ER, find real professionals to run it, that know what they are doing! You have nice equipment but noone smart enough to run it!! Been proven multiple times!! What's the point in bigger ER if dont even have good caregivers and providers? None! Waste of time and money!! Your just bringing in more money because you can ignore more patients. It should be about the type of care! Not the size or how many rooms you can fill at once! I'm glad I'm smart enough to have sympathy and empathy for people! Been through enough and seen enough bullcrap there that I dont even have respect for healthcare there because it's not healthcare! It's simply not real healthcare when noone professional enough to do it! Cant even run equipment right! God help everyone that goes there! Your better off to die at home! Fact!! Proven! Bandaids are cheaper at home! And at home you have them! Enough said!

We are new to town and unfortunately had to make a trip to the ER. My preschooler had a minor injury. They had him seen, treated and out in an hour. Which is unheard of in the city we are from! He loved looking at the birds in the waiting area which is a nice touch. All of the staff from the desk to radiology were super friendly.

Sister delivered first baby here. The OB nurses were very helpful and friendly. The nurse manager was not very friendly and acted bothered when asked for help which made us all feel uncomfortable. Aside from her the staff was wonderful and made the overall experience a good one.
