My son had a football game in Carbondale and unfortunately his arm was dislocated during the game. The trainer was unable to pop it back in place so he had to go to the local hospital E.R., by ambulance. I was called by a R.N. named Amanda 2x to explain to me what was happening. She stated that they would be giving him meds in there for the pain and will be sending him home with a script. My son made it home at 2am from the trip. There wasn’t any script given so the coach ran and bought Advil from the local gas station. I administered these 200mg pills in quantities of 5 every 4 hrs switching up with Tylenol for about 16hrs and my son says he still in pain. I called the E.R. to tell them about the script not being sent and to request one to be sent to the local Walgreens. The person who answered the phone identified the situation from last night then placed me on hold to find the discharge instructions and then another nurse gets on the phone to tell me that my son shouldn’t be in pain and if he is then I should take him to another E.R.
I asked her why should I have to take him to another E.R. and get totally separate charges when someone could send a script to the E.R. I asked her had she dislocated her shoulder before and she said No! That was exactly what I thought since she stated that he shouldn’t be in pain.. I asked for the D.O.N. and was told that only the floor supervisor Michael was there. Another transfer..phone rang several times before he finally picked up. I told him that I had given my son 1000mg every 4 hrs. and he proceeded to say that I can give my son 800mg of Tylenol every 6 hours. I’m thinking didn’t you just hear what I said.. I told him that I’ve already given him more mg than what is required and alternated with different anti-inflammatories please call in a prescription NSAID. He said “they are the same strengths and the same as over the counter. In all of almost a 1/2 century since I been here, it has not been the same. I asked for someone higher than him and he said no one else was there but on MONDAY the hospital executive Jennifer will be there. When I asked for a number or extension, he said just “just call the hospital and ask for Jennifer E. and they will know who she is”. All of this for a request for a anti-inflammatory script to be called in for my child who’s shoulder was dislocated in a compact sport, football. REALLY!! I pray that your child doesn’t have an accident and go here because apparently YOU ARE ON YOUR OWN when it comes to maintaining his/her pain. Or maybe pay the extra bill from the 2nd visit to the E.R. when they refuse to send a script and tell you to go to another E.R.
