Although it has been 7 years since my visit; it is still one of the single worst experiences of my life! We went to Memorial for labor and delivery. I was fully dilated and faced and pushing at 8 am. 7 hours later I still could not get the baby out. Rather than opt for a c-section, the doctor felt he could get the baby out with suction AND forceps. It took the doctor another hour and a half to remove the baby using that method. The baby was stuck. I am of a small frame and the only way he was able to get the baby out after being stuck for an hour and a half was to manually go in and pull my son out! Needless to say it didn’t go well for my body, but thankfully my son was delivered with no lasting injuries. I was torn front to back, inside and out. I was unconscious most of the rest of the day and night. I remember 2 doctors working on me trying to stop the bleeding and a third one paged. I heard the doctor say he needs another set of hands before I passed out again. During the night shift, i called the nurse to help me to the bathroom and her response was” do it yourself “ My husband and I were shocked. We just looked at each other! With my husbands help I made it to the bathroom and passed out.; a trail of blood on the floor. I had a hemoglobin of 6.5 and would pass out when I tried sitting up and a nurse telling me to “do it myself”. I wish to God I knew the nurses name! Horrible, Horrible experience. I went in on Tuesday night, delivered on Wednesday and didn’t get a transfusion until Thursday!!!! I was unconscious most of the time, couldn’t nurse my son, could stand until I got the transfusion. I had a nurse aggravated I had not gotten out of bed to shower.... I couldn’t walk without passing out. Perhaps my experience is an isolated episode..... but I had the worst possible care! To top it all off, when I was unconscious, my husband said they brought nursing students in to our room , a group of3 with a supervisor and looked at my sutures and showing me as an example as level 4 tears and such teams to the vaginal area are rare and they were seeing it first hand. Horrible care! To that I would like to say there was a nurse Tuesday night that worked with us during labor who had been on night shift for 14 years at that time who seemed very experienced and kept close tabs on my son and myself and was fabulous and kind and encouraging. For her I am thankful. Our stay was December 6-7th of 2011.
