This is a difficult review to write. Have come here for years and recently for an unfortunately long stay. The vast majority of the staff here (physicians, nurses, allied health, other support) are top-notch. Their skill and empathy are excellent. The hospital itself if frighteningly bad. The facility is old and poorly maintained (hard to manage a fever in a freezing room where they can't control the temp.) The worst part is the complete lack of reliable communication process. For 6 nights in a row, some aspect of my care during the day was inaccurately reflected in my computer-based chart for the night. This leaves you to have to convince the night nurses and overworked inexperienced nighttime residents to deliver the care you discussed with your docs. This ensures every night is misery, and every afternoon is fraught with the anxiety of anticipating the fight coming up in a few hours. Despite the efforts of truly excellent staff, it is nearly impossible to get adequate care in this poorly-run hospital.

I would like to thank everyone on staff in ambulatory care that treated me wonderfully during my recent stay for knee surgery.

Please please please never go here if you are having any kind of mental distress. Go to a university hospital where there is a psych unit. I went to St. Francis emergency room after a panic attack I couldn't come down from. That was my first mistake. I've had clinical depression and anxiety for 7 years and have always been on medication and seeing a therapist. Turns out all I needed was another dose of my anxiety med and a 3 hour nap. However, St. Francis does not have a psychiatric unit and therefore could not release me until I was seen by a psychiatrist. So they sent me to Chicago Lakeshore hospital, probably the worst psychiatrist hospital in the area. On an earlier occasion I came to this hospital for severe cramping in the lower abdomen. I thought my IUD was moving out of place. A EMT student ran my IV and missed my vein several times. He also did not inform me that he was student or ask my permission to practice on me. They gave me painkillers and ran loads of tests, but the nursing staff tried to discharge me without talking to a doctor!!! I asked to see one and they said, "oh, did you want to see a doctor?" I said, "yes!!! I want to know the results of my tests." The nurse then proceeded to read back my test results, before I interrupted him and asked to see a doctor. The emergency room doctor came in and I was informed that I had a kidney and bladder infection, likely cause by and untreated UTI. Not the results the nurse had given me (probably because he is not certified to give results!!!) The kind emergency room doctor gave me a prescription and I was on my way. That doctor is the only reason for my second star. All other things I experienced were 1 star worthy!

Horrible. Nasty staff!!! I was brought in a few days ago by EMS because I was having difficulty breathing and told the nurse I can barley breathe to be answering all these questions esp BC they were repetitive and I just got released from the hospital a day prior they should hv my info.(while gasping for air between every word) They nurse continued by saying if u can say all that u can answer questions. So she continued with her questions I ignored them and then another nurse who was in the room taking my vitals informed me that I have to talk and while about to take my blood she said "Do you want me to do this or not?" (Talking about her job lol) Didn't really know that was an option when you receive pay for it. My response to her is that this is her job and what I don't need is the extra drama referring to her overdramatizing. ALL OF THIS AND NO ONE THOUGHT HEY LETS GIVE HER SOME O2. Long story short they tell me I have issues with my lung that didn't come from complications from my surgery YEAH RIGHT!!!! DONT HAVE A BABY HERE AND DONT GO HERE FOR EMERGENCIES!!!! YOU'LL REGRET IT IF U LIVE TO DO SO. WAY TO TREAT A VETERAN. THIS PLACE DOESN'T DESERVE A STAR THEY ARE HORRIBLE!
