The other night I took my son to the hood river hospital, mind you 30 min drive. He is three and was having a difficult time breathing. I called ahead on the way there made sure that they knew we were coming. When we get there, there is no one in the waiting room. I will also add only one person in the ER period. The ER receptionist, is asking me the normal questions that only hood river asks as " Protocol". As I'm trying to hold my deadweight body of my three year old the sounds like a dieing seal that cant breathe or cough right or talk and drink. My three year old trying to lay on the floor because he doesn't feel good and then proceeds to Dry heave and then throw up stomach acid all over himself and I. The receptionist is still being rude because I'm a trying to help my son and answer questions at the same time. Nobody helping us after he vomits everywhere. Mind you I got all the questions wrong because I'm standing in the middle of the ER door panicking while no one helps my three year old. Again I said no one was in the ER! Even when going to the next room the next gentleman doesn't seem to be pleased either to be at work. Is also very rude, I have to ask is this even an ER? The gentleman finally got on my same page that I was worried about my son. Then got us into the room where he could finally lay down and relax. The doctor was a lady, she seemed like she hated her job and didn't even want to be there. And was not nice to my son or us. Even when we asked for work papers for our employees she acted as if it was an Inconvenience for her. After getting my son treatment that I could not do at home. He was finally talking and singing and finally after 6 hours took his first drink of water. My son was breathing normal again. My son was better. I can not help but think that if my son was in any worse condition that he would not have survived with the lack of bedside manner hood river hospital provided. However, I do give a shot out to the chest xray gentleman and the shot steroids nurse. For Out standing behavior when it came toMy son. They treated him Respectfully with smiles and Encouragement to get their job done with an appropriate manner that did not involve making my son uncomfortable. Hood river is 30 min from my home. The next closest hospital is 50 mins to an hour depending on the time of the day. Next time my son is in a emergency I will drive to the farthest hospital in portland because the care there for a 3 year old is acted on right away. They don't ask you questions till they get your baby in the room and check him out. They take care of your son or daughter before anything bad Escalates. So I say myself if your young child is in need of immediate care take them to portland hospitals or Ohsu. They will take care of your baby first and foremost. Hood river is only okay if you are a adult and can address your own situation. They was a second last night where I thought I was going to lose my baby boy with special needs because hospital staff could not get it together and they were to tired to care about my son. I am pleased that he is okay. I am not happy with the outcome of last night the way hospital staff did not treat my three year old right away. It was unacceptable. What if my drive was to long and the staff was to late? If you are under 10 years old and cant talk or make sense for your illness do not go to hood river hospital. Go somewhere where they act right away so you dont have the chance of possibly losing your baby.
