Sentara tells you a CT scan is now affordable only $60. so you pay it. Two months later someone from their radiology dept sends you a bill for an additional $121., I wouldn't have had the test if they were honest with me. They said it was only $60.00. So now medical facilities lie to patients!!! I will never go there again.

The labor and delivery nurses as well as the postpartum nurses are the best. I was induced a couple of months ago and had visited this hospital a few other times too. On my first night I had Hannah as my night nurse and she was so nice. Then the main day I was in labor I had Shaun. She went out of her way to get the portable fetal monitor to work and she spent over 2 hours to working with me so I could maintain my mobility. Unfortunately her shift ended before I had my son but she went out of her way to come see us before we left the hospital and this made me so happy. Then the night shift came when I had my epidural and my son. Jessica was my main nurse that night and I am so thankful for all of her assistance when it came to delivering my son. Her and Melissa were a great tag team. Jessica was also of great assistance in the few hours we stayed with her after my son was born. Then when we moved to the postpartum ward the amenities were pretty cool, they make sure to provide you with snacks, a congratulatory dinner, and other food perks. We had the same night nurse for the two nights we were there named Beverly and she was so kind. She taught me lots of simple things, and answered all my questions about my son. Sentara was also wonderful in allowing our friends and family to visit as well as checking on my son and I. I definitely hope for our next baby we can experience their team again.

I went in for an ear ache which I was sure was an infection at midnight. I know there’s a lot going on behind the doors, and I understood the few hours I had to wait so rooms could be cleaned/prepared for new patients. The front desk women were all extremely friendly, and the pretty pregnant receptionist was very friendly/helpful, I truly appreciated their kindness. The nurse, and doctor who attended to me were magnificent, I wish I wasn’t so hard of hearing so I could’ve heard names, but they were so professional, and easy going. I felt very at ease with them, even asking some goofy questions. I absolutely would recommend this hospital, because of the amazing people that work here, and the truly friendly staff. Also my nurse who checked me in was very helpful in answering some questions that were in her ability, and I thank everyone for their amazing kindness, and thoughtful manner.

Daughter had a sever bone fracture. Took her to this Sentara as the closest ER. Won't go there again for anything. Terrible Doctors who screwed up the splint and had to do it twice. Terrible billing department that ignored my communications about my bills. Lost records of my calls and threaten to send the account to collections even though I've called to review the bill each time it was sent. Each time requesting more data they claimed would stop any collections consideration. Terrible patient advocate who pretends to be sympathetic, but is really just there to make patients feel like they have no other options but to pay. Like all hospitals, the bill is insane. Daughter was there for less than two hours. 1 x-ray and a screwed up splint later we get sent on our way with more than $2000 in charges to submit to insurance. Go to INOVA. You'll pay just as much, but at least it will seem worth something. Would have gotten better and faster service at patient first across the street.

I've never had an IV in my life and I've never spent the night in the hospital and the last time I needed ER services with probably 25 years ago and I am a 56 year-old white male. I was suffering from some type of upper abdominal pain for almost a week and the pain was excruciating and unbearable and finally I couldn't take it anymore. We all hear the nightmare scenarios about the ER room. I can only tell you what happened to me and I walked in and my check-in took 5 minutes. Then 10 minutes later my vitals and some questions were asked by a friendly competent nurse. Then 20 minutes later I was taken to a room and they started the examination and I got a ultrasound and some blood and urine work up. The doctor was responsive polite friendly and supportive and I had some questions he answered diligently. The nurse came in to give me my medications and was professional. We all know that the waiting room and the ER times are long and yes I was there for 4 hours but I felt that the care was competent professional And Timely. The only negative I would give would be that I had to give a urine sample in the bathroom and the bathroom was pretty dirty. Other than that I would say my experience was pleasant and professional. The nurse told me that this is the only Community Hospital on the East End of the county so that means that people with no benefits use the ER room as their go all end all and as you can imagine the hospital is overrun with problems due to this type of activity
